Embodied Yin yoga invites us to explore our multidimensional capacity for healing by listening and sensing with the whole body-mind. It deepens awareness of the mind-body connection in every dimension and through somatic approaches, intuitive movement, classical non-dual Tantra, Chinese medicine, and Yin yoga opens space by helping us release our limitations.
In Embodied Yin we hold gentle (and sometimes more dynamic) long-held postures and somatic practices with an attitude of Maitri, loving-kindness. The practices stimulate energy flow through the meridians, and restore, rewire, and replenish the nervous system. In these Yang-infused times, Yin and the rebalancing of Yin–Yang, helps us stop, reset, and respond as we begin again.
Traditional Chinese Medicine & the Five Phases
Rooted in Taoism and reaching back more than 2,500 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine sees the human body as a miniature of the surrounding universe. The way we move with Tao is described by Yin–Yang and the Five Phases: water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. Their relationships explain how the body functions, how it shifts in disease, and how Qi, blood, and body fluids keep flowing to maintain health. Our study threads through all five:
Water · Kidneys
The Yin phase of gestation, of movement within stillness. Everything begins here. No coming, no going, just Being; the essence from which creation flows.
Wood · Liver
Birth and new growth, the most Yang phase: expansive, determined, even risky. In balance, resources flow smoothly, emotions steady, and we express our true nature clearly, the force moving upward and outward into the world.
Fire · Heart
The peak of Yang. The Heart is the ruler: all-knowing, ever-present, sharing its wisdom for the good of the whole. Fulfilment, the full expression and integration of our being. It holds the Shen, the Spirit, and it's where we take up space in the world.
Earth · Spleen
Our ripening; gathering and holding together. Like Mother Earth, the constant provider, the hearth the body gathers around to renew itself. Unification is the guiding principle.
Metal · Lungs
Eliminating the unnecessary, keeping only what's needed; flow (Yang) within the container (Yin). What is meant to stay stays; what is meant to leave leaves. Transmutation, turning base material into pure essence.
Cellular consciousness, embodiment & somatics
Every cell in the body carries a living intelligence able to know itself, initiate action, and communicate with every other cell. Attuning to this cellular consciousness brings us to the ground from which our physical, psychological, and spiritual being flows.
Embodiment emerges from the cells' own awareness, a direct experience, with no guide, no witness, just the fully known consciousness of the moment. It is a being process, not a doing one; an awareness process, not a thinking one. From it emerge feeling, sensing, understanding, and compassion. (After Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.)
Somatics are the tools, pathways, and inner awareness we find through the body to recognise and become the embodiment we already are, to arrive at BEING before DOING. Yin yoga is one of the great openers inward, toward the limitless spirit that manifests as bodymind and soul.

Who it's for
Embodied Yin is for anyone setting out toward becoming a yin yoga teacher / facilitator, or already teaching yoga / movement / dance who wants more tools and a more embodied way of facilitating, or to deepen your own study, if teaching isn't on the cards yet.
The full training (training material + some independent work) is 50h+. It isn't limited to teachers, everyone receives a certificate of participation. Participants who already hold a foundational YTT and complete the certification pathway (homework and practicum, assessed) receive a certificate and can begin teaching Embodied Yin™ and "normal" yin yoga classes. Without a foundational YTT, you won't receive a teaching certificate just yet but you're just as welcome.
